The Conflict Monitors are designed to provide concise and current
information on peace and security issues on countries in crisis. At
present, the site focuses on two countries: Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Pairing the latest news with related
research, the Monitors provides daily briefings on emerging issues and
immediate access to the best available data and analysis on
conflict-related issues in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Since 2001, an international coalition of armed forces, currently under NATO command, has been assisting the Afghan government to extend its authority and create a secure environment.

With a war on its border with Afghanistan, insurgency in the northwest, sectarian and ethnic violence throughout the country, and an unresolved dispute with India over the Kashmir region, Pakistan and its people face a myriad of security challenges.
